The Netherlands, Sweden, germany, Spain, Austria and 21 other European countries intend to jointly set up a trial with autonomous vehicles. This was agreed on during a meeting on connected and autonomous vehicles with the Dutch Ministry of Traffic and Environment recently in Amsterdam.
In urban areas and in thinly populated areas countries intend to cooperate on trying out self driving vehicles. Countries also intend to smoothen administrative barriers and to offer exemptions to ease the possibilities for such a try out. Right now, each country still uses it’s own exemption procedures which is unneccessarily devious and complicated.
It is also required that there will be more cooperation in exchanging data between vehicles in the first place, but also between vehicles and traffic lights and traffic centers. All communication must be independent of the make of a vehicle. When exactly the trial will start is not yet known.
