Volvo E-axle

Volvo Trucks used the I-Shift transmission for the first generation of electric trucks. The I-Shift gearbox was fitted with one, two or three engines, depending on the requested power.

The news is that Volvo now presents the e-axle, a more compact system with the engines and the gearbox in a smaller housing directly mounted on the rear axle. This saves a lot of space on the chassis, so extra battery’s can be fitted there. Basicly this is the same design that Mercedes-Benz already has in production with the eActros models.

Volvo is starting series production of electric trucks of this next generation in the race to electric transportation for the long distance.
