Volkswagen technicians have declared in the German press that a new van, smaller than the Caddy, is under development. This van will be electrically driven. At the recent Geneva Motor Show, Volkswagen unveiled the e-Co-Motion concept, which looks like a Transporter, but which has the dimensions of the Caddy. The new van will be even smaller than the e-Co-Motion.
Volkswagen emphasises that environmental requirements for delivery vehicles in cities will become much tighter in future. Menawhile, Volkswagen has developed electric drivelines for the Golf and Up! passenger cars. These drivelines are built around Lithium Ion batteries.
It is totally unclear what the exact dimensions of the new small van will be, but it is for sure that they will be nearly similar to that of the Fiat Fiorino, Peugeot Bipper, Citroën Nemo triplets. Volkswagen leraned from it’s fleet customers that they also look for a more versatile vehicle, with greater steering angles.
