The Mercedes-Benz eActros600 has a great range and beautiful technology but the weight on the driven axle is a problem. The batteries in the 4 meter long frame make the e-Axle very heavy. With normal trailer loads the risk of exceeding the 11,5 ton weight limit is high.
Therefore the Dutch truck specialists of Estepe designed a special, narrow trail axle that can be lifted when possible. With the axle on the ground the weight limit together with the driven axle is 16 tons, and that should do the trick.
The axle has small wheels and is narrow, so it does not touch the landing gear of standard trailers. It is tough a non- steering axle. the special axle was developed with Daimler Truck. The truck was spotted by the collegues of TTM at the E-Truck Experience in Zandvoort, The Netherlands last week.
