Renault Trucks is working on their version of the next generation electric trucks. Just like Volvo Trucks the new Renault e-truck is going to have 780 kWh on board that provides a range up to 600 km.
The extra weight of the batteries takes most of the load capacity of the trailer. That’s why an extra, small axle is mounted. This steering trail axle is good for 4,5 ton. With this axle the tractor has a wheelbase of 4,1 meter. In combination with a standard, 13,60 meter trailer that gives more then a meter extra combination length.
The same problem goes for Volvo, but the Aero is even longer. With the streamlined cab that both brands have should that not become a legal problem. The 17,65 meter long combination is allowed when it is able to turn within the 12,50 turning circle.
The long Volvo with 600 km range and the extra axle is expected early next year, Renault Trucks states their version is ready by the end of 2026. Source: 40ton.net
