The Indian owner of truckbrand Avia will close the production facility of Avia in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. Ashok-Leyland withdraws Avia completely from the European continent and will continue to build Avia trucks in india.
Productionlines of the Prague Avia-plant will be reassembled in India for production. The Ashok Leyland group is planning to export lorries similar to the current Avia from its Indian plant to almost the entire world, but not to countries of the European Union, various sources say.
In Europe, business remained marginal, which is due to heavy competition from local brands and an ongoing economic downturn in Europe. Avia has only delivered four complete lorries so far this year.
Avia has been part of the Hinduja Group since 2006. It employed 227 people in Europe at the end of 2012.
