The American Army has invested 2,7 million dollars in British company Quintiq. This company specialises in electric vehicle drivesystems where the electric motors are mounted in the wheel hubs. The US army appears to be very aware of the savings potential of such compact drivesystems.
Should military vehicles be electrically driven on a large scale, this will lead to much lower maintenance costs as gearboxes, differentials, transmissions and drive axles as well as bearins will be mostly absent. Maintenance costs , time and effort would come down very siginificantly, and vehicles would become much lighter.
Therefore, The Pentagon intends to support Quintiq in developing these drivelines. The Brits are apart from the military eagerly looking at other segments as well, such as road transport, mining, construction and agriculture.
