In the US, speculations in the media arise as if Mack is developing a new lighter truck, in Class 7. This can hardly be a coincident. It happens at the time when Volvo is finishing it’s new medium size FM-line-up in the European mid-segment.
Mack is reported be losing marketshare while the share of lighter trucks is on the rise in the US truckmarket. It could see Mack competing in this segment with Hino, Freightliner and International. Mack might become a more versatile brand, offering lighter trucks as well and sharing more technology with parent company Volvo. Volvo is reported to be recruiting engineers for a new project, and presumably, spokesmen of the company refuse to go into detail about it.
