Cummins is launching a new 15 liter engine, the X15D at the Brisbane Truck Show 2023. The new engine has a bigger bore and is the new top model of Cummins.
The new engine is designed for ultra low emissions and optimal fuel eficiency. There is no date fort he start of the production but word is that DAF Trucks is already testing this engine in Australia.
The existing Cummins ISX15 is 362 kilo heavyer than the Paccar MX13 engine, but the new X15D is said to be 225 kilo lighter than the ISX15. Cummins uses a sculpted engine block and a composite oilpan to realise this weight loss. It results in the highest output per kilo in the industry.
The new X15D (or Paccar MX15?) is using the XPI fuel injection system and comes with power outputs up to 660 Hp. Fuel economy is said to be 8% lower than that of the ISX15.
Other news is that Cummins is also working on a hydrogen combustion engine on the base of the ISX15 engine.
