MAN Hydrogen ICE engine

MAN has presented a direct injection hydrogen engine that is said to produce only 1 gram of CO2/kWh. This means it is a zero emission engine. The base of the engine is the D38 diesel, with a bigger bore. That makes it 16,8 liters. The engine produces 520 Hp and 2600 Nm. The energy efficiency is said to be 45%, which is quite an achievement.

The engine works with 700 bar compressed hydrogen and it has a simplified exhaust after treatment system. The cooling system and the driveline are the same as the diesel version. MAN is expected to start producing this engine in 2025.
