Limpens is testing Euro-6

limpens8Dutch transport company Limpens in Elsloo organised its own Euro-6 comparison test. The company ordered eight trucks of four brands to compare the Euro-6 technic on board. The MAN, Mercedes and DAF truck are 410 Hp versions, the Volvo is 460. Limpens wants trucks round 400 Hp, but Volvo could only deliver the 460 version.

Limpens7The company with a fleet of ninety trucks already had some experience with the DAF Euro-6 engine. One of the DAF fieldtest trucks was running at Limpens. Untill the start of this test Limpens had two brands, DAF and MAN and the company wants to stick to a two brand strategy in the future. Which brands that are going to be depends on the outcome of the test.

All the Euro-6 trucks come with all safety options, including a system that monitors the closing of the fifth wheel.

Apart from the fuel and comfort the weight is also very important for Limpens. The company runs bulk trailers, so the lighter the better. In the chosen configuration the MAN truck is the lightest with only 7520 kg in Euro-6. Second best is the Volvo with a weight penalty of 300 kilo. The DAF XF with the MX13 engine weighs 80 kilo’s more. With the new MX11 the DAF would be second, cause that engine is 180 kg lighter! The Mercedes-Benz Actros is the heaviest truck with a weight of 8060 kg. That means that the payload of the Actros is half a ton less than the MAN.
