Daimler invests heavily in Brazil

DAF-BrazilOn the occasion of the 19th international transport exhibition “Fenatran”, which was held in São Paulo, Brazil, Daimler Trucks is announcing a new millions-heavy investment package for the commercial vehicle plants of Mercedes-Benz do Brasil. This happens right after the first Brazilian assembled DAF truck left the brand new Paccar assembly plant in Ponta Grossa.

Daimler plans to invest around one billion Brazilian real (the equivalent of around 300 million euro after the current exchange rate) in the next two years. The financing will be placed mainly in research and development of new products and innovative technologies, as well as in process optimizations and modernization of the two production plants São Bernardo do Campo (Federal State São Paulo) and Juiz de Fora (Federal State Minas Gerais).

Accelo_01Daimler’s been around on the Brazilian market for almost sixty years. It has ever since been a market leader or nearly so. Under the Mercedes-brand, Daimler sells Actros and Axor trucks in Brasil, as well as the light Accelo (pictured), which is a modified Mitsubishi Canter. Recently, the two millionth truck produced in Brazil left the Daimler-production lines. So, there’s a long way to go for DAF to equal this achievement.
