DAF increases production, Mercedes looks for savings

daffabriekDAF Trucks will increase it’s truck production from 164 trucks per day to 184 trucks by the end of August upcoming. DAF reports increasing interest from customers in it’s newly introduced generation of Euro 6 trucks. To cope with the production increase, DAF looks to reinforce it’s workforce with 200 newly to recruit people. In the picture you see the Dutch king with DAF CEO Harrie Schippers in front of the new Euro 6 XF.

Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz truck manager Wolfgang Bernhard explained that he is looking for savings within his company of up to 1,6 billion euro’s in the upcoming twelve month period. He says that Mercedes performs well regarding order intake, but Mercedes doesn’t make enough profit out of it. In an earlier stage, Mercedes had to lay off 2.100 people of it’s gigantic Wörth plant. The circumstances of both truck manufacturers are typical: DAF performs better in a weak market, whereas Mercedes doesn’t succeed to gain decent profit from the favourable German market situation.
