At the event Scania Winter 2023 in Norway Scania showed the new XL cab for the first time to the press. The XL version is 27 cm longer than the standard cab.
Like Volvo with the XXL cab Scania also builds an extra panel behind the side air deflectors. Because of this you can’t see the extra length of the cab. Volvo made longer side fenders, but Scania mounts the same, standard air deflectors behind the cab. These fenders are fixed and can not be opened.
In the interior there is a wide bunk of 1 meter, without parts taken out behind the seats. On top of the fridge there is a panel to put your phone, or glasses and there are two aditional cupholders.
In the interior the extra parts are visible, and there is also an extra roof panel. Funny is that the XL version has two rails for curtains in the ceiling now.
The longer cab of Scania does not comply with the European 96/53/EG regulation, and that means you can not drive it with a 13,6 meter trailer in Europe. To comply to that rule Scania has to make the front of the cab more aerodynamic, like what DAF did with the XG and XG+. Probably Scania is working on that, maybe even for modelyear 2024?
