Scania concept, is this the future?

Scania Concept3The EU has made a proposal for longer trucks. The extra length is for creating more streamlined combinations. The proposal is there, but now each country has to implement the new lengths in their own laws. Let’s hope they succeed to do that in the same way all over Europe, because that is the only way.

The extra length is not only on the back of the trailer, but they also want to allow a streamlined nose at the front of the truck. That is better for aerodynamic reasons, but it also improves road safety in head-on collisions and when dealing with other road users in town. According to a European study, the ‘new nose’ might save 400 road deaths in Europe on an annual basis. That’s quite a reason to implement the new regulations isn’t it?

Scania showed these concept trucks years ago, and the truck of the future could look like this when the politicians do their job correctly. For Scania, this could be a big thing, cause they could be the first to introduce a new truck that fits in these regulations. All the other brands just renewed their programms, and Scania should be the first to come with something completely new. That could take some time, because the development of a new truck takes years, and before you start, you want to make sure that the new regulations are implemented in all European countries.

Now I just hope that there is also going to be some extra cab length in the new regulations as well. Drivers who spend most of their lives in the truck, deserve some more space than in the European standard sleepercabs.

  2. Hello…Do yo have information on where to find or who did the study that indicates that “the ‘new nose’ might save 400 road deaths in Europe on an annual basis”???
