Hydrogen and diesel truck lock horns

In order to promote the virtues of a hydrogen driveline, Toyota has organised a sprint between two 35.000 lbs (around 16 tons) trucks. One fitted with a traditional diesel engine, the other is Toyota’s prototype hydrogen Class 8 truck. The hydrogen truck releases it’s power to two electric motors of which we all know that their maximum torque is available from zero revs. This means that there’s more than enough power, the thing is where do you find a hydrogen fuel station. By showing what is possible with the new technology, Toyota hopes to show the world that change is imminent, and that hydrogen is one of the possible solutions to realise sustainable mobility, even at high weights.
